How YOU Save Lives!
By joining Team in Training, along with training to master a personal goal, you fundraise to support the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in Fighting Blood Cancers:
- LLS funds more blood cancer research than any other voluntary health agency. Many LLS-supported advances help beyond the blood cancer patients for whom they were first developed.
- LLS support was instrumental in the development of Velcade®, the targeted for patients with multiple myeloma, now also approved for mantle cell lymphoma.
- LLS-funded researchers discovered the value of combining Rituxan® with standard chemotherapy resulting in the first survival rate improvement in 25 years for patients with diffuse large B-cell lymphoma.
- An LLS funded researcher developed Gleevec®, a pill for chronic myelogenous leukemia (CML). Now, 95%of newly diagnosed, chronic-phase CML, patients survive more than five years with good quality of life.
- LLS-funded researchers are exploring new ways to predict and lessen the adverse long-term effects of blood cancer treatments.
- LLS is working to help overcome a key barrier in getting participants into clinical trials — developing novel models that bring trials into the communities where patients live.
